On Friday and Saturday I attended TheCURVYCon. Sponsored by JCPenney and hosted by Chastity Garner, of Garner Style, and CeCe Olisa, of Plus Size Princess, it’s an event for plus size women to embrace and celebrate our bodies, shop and discuss topics like fashion, body positivity, self-esteem, health and fitness. I’m still smiling from all the wonderful vibes… listening to, meeting and talking with representatives from plus size retailers and designers, stylists, bloggers, models and so many inspirational and influential ladies. Here’s a pictorial recap:
Day 1 –
Positive Affirmations:
Fitness Sessions with CeCe, Jessamyn Stanley and Anowa Adjah:
Shopping with A+ Curves, ASK Fashion, ASOS Curve, Beth Ditto, Catherines, Curvy Couture, Dia & Co., Eleven 60, Eloquii, Fashion to Figure, God’s Favorite Surprises, Love, Lianca, Rachel Roy, Simply Be and Yandy.com:
Remember one of the dresses from ASK Fashion that I saw during the Celebrate My Size Expo? Since CURVYCon provided dressing rooms, I tried it on and LOVED the way it looked so guess what? It’s now in my closet!
Meeting up with fellow bloggers, Marlena (Big City, Curvy Girl, Thin Waller), Amanda (Bella Moxie) and Alysse Dalessandro (Ready to Stare)
VIP party with Gwynnie Bee where I met Lindsey Averill (Fattitude the Movie), Emily (Authentically Emmie) and Kiah (From the Rez to the City)…
… and where we were inroduced to designer Rachel Antonoff‘s plus-size collection:
Whew! That was a long, wonderful day.
Day 2 – Shopping and Panel Discussions:
So, You Want to be a Blogger? Here’s How…
with Rochelle Johnson, Amanda Allison, Nadia Aboulhosn, Ty Alexander, Chante Burkett and Sarah Rae Vargas
Introducing the beautiful video, #HereIAm: Ashley Nell Tipton, Valerie Sagun and Jes Baker then Designing Your Curves: A Conversation with Ashley Nell Tipton. I was happy to learn that JCPenney‘s Boutique+ line will go up to size 34.

Dear Retailer with Michelle Korchinski-Ogden (Gwynnie Bee), Lisa Arbetter (StyleWatch Magazine), Jodi Arnold (Eloquii), Nathan Laffin (JCPenney) and Kierra Shepard (Eleven 60), moderated by Madeline Figueroa-Jones (Plus Model Magazine). Extended sizes and petite sizes were discussed as well as diversity and body positivity in their advertising. According to Mr Laffin, “Make no mistake, the fashion world is paying attention,”
Speaking of JCPenney, they gave out t-shirts from their Boutique+ collection that we could embellish with ribbons, buttons and other craft items at the DIY tables. Also, Ashley Nell Tipton posed for pictures and was super sweet.
I also got to take photos with Goo Goo Atkins (of the show, Mary Mary), Sabrina Severance (of the show Big Women: Big Love) models Alex LaRosa and Elly Mayday. Amanda Allison, Jes Baker and Valerie Sagun
