It’s that time of year when we’re bombarded with hype in order to pour over 60 billion dollars into the coffers of the weight loss industry.
Between ads for diet programs (like Weight Watchers with famous stock holder Oprah Winfrey) and products (like prescription medication Contrave), the message is that our bodies… and even our brains… aren’t acceptable. We’re told that we have to reduce and mold them, starting on the magical date of January 1st, if we’re to feel any love towards ourselves or lead “a fantastic and full life”.
Here’s the thing, though: you don’t need to slim, sculpt or change your body one bit to be worthy of love, respect and all good things. You and your body are awesome, right at this moment, exactly as you are!
I hope you believe it. If not, then hopefully 2017 will be the year that you look in the mirror and start loving the image in it. Instead of a resolution to lose weight, I hope you make a revolutionary act to accept and celebrate yourself as you are. Instead of hating your body, I hope you treat it gently with lots of loving self-care. Instead of changing how your body looks, I hope you change how you look at not just your body but all bodies.
I hope the New Year brings you much joy, love and prosperity. I hope you have fun and lots of laughter.
