FFF Week 2017 – A Recap in Pictures

After all the fun I had during last year’s Full Figured Fashion Week, I was determined to enjoy even more this year. I didn’t attend all the events last week but the ones I did can be summed up with 3 letters… H-O-T!!!

Sunday – HOT Music, Art and Rooftop
The Curvy Music, Film & Art Festival took place on the first day of a heatwave. After viewing artwork by fashion illustrator, Jonquel Norwood, Ken and I enjoyed the jazz of Rakiem Walker Project on the rooftop of The Lofts at Prince while mingling with fellow bloggers as well as influencers, models, designers and others in the plus size fashion industry. I had looked forward to the artwork of David “Moko Jumbie” James but he was involved in a fender-bender on his way to the event. Thankfully he’s alright. Before leaving we watched a screening of Sandra Chuma’s documentary PLUS!

Wednesday – WHITE HOT Cruise
A night on the Hudson River, beautiful people, gorgeous fashion, booty-shaking music and a runway show featuring the new active wear line by Fit for Me from Fruit of the Loom and White Party Fashion by Ashley Stewart all made for an awesome time on the Hornblower Infinity.

I was initially anxious about wearing a white dress (I didn’t even wear white when I married my ex-husband!) but felt great afterwards about stepping, yet again, out of my comfort zone. To be honest, though, that probably had more to do with my success at keeping the dress stain- free for an entire evening even though dinner.

Thursday Morning – HOT Fashion
The day started with the Curvy Expo where I previewed collections from various designers and retailers. I learned about Fit For Me’s seamless panties and camis as well as their active wear. As someone who wears an extended size, I was happy to know that they’re available in sizes up to 30/32 especially since one designer (who will remain nameless) boasted that her line “goes up to 5X!” which turned out to only be size 22. REALLY?!!!

After stopping by the Avenue display, I’m so eager for their fall collection… not only the clothes but also the shoes and accessories in gorgeous colors and prints. I was ready to snag all the belts and jewelry on the table. Avenue also carries sizes up to 32 and are considering doing the same for their new Loralette line for teens/younger women

Later I was introduced to Joe Freeman, president and CEO of MedZone whose products include ChafeZone for Chub Rub (can’t wait to try out my samples!) and  met the great Mo Vaughn, former first basemen for the NY Mets who launched MVP Collections for big and tall men. One of the best parts of the Expo for me? Winning one of Fit For Me’s raffle prizes… an outfit from their casual wear line!

Friday – HOT Topics
A panel of models and influencers gathered to discuss the state of the plus size community and how to continue promoting inclusion, acceptance and positivity.

I thought an appropriate dress to wear was from a designer who embodies inclusion and body positivity… Mallorie Dunn of SmartGlamour.
